  1. The real name of David Dhawan is Rajinder Dhawan. A friendly Christian neighbor used to call him “David” lovingly. So, while joining FTII, Pune, he changed his name to David Dhawan just to be different from the rest.

  2. David Dhawan joined FTII to become an actor but after seeing his batch mates Satish Shah and Suresh Oberoi, he changed his stream to editing.

  3. He started his career as an editor and for a long time, he used to edit all his films.

  4. The movie that inspired David Dhawan towards excellence was “Meghe Dhaka Tara” – a Bengali film by Ritwik Ghatak. That brilliant movie moved David so much that he became the worthy gold medalist for editing in FTII.

  6. From 1989 to 2005, David Dhawan had a release every year. He took his first sabbatical of 2 years for the first time in his career.
