The ‘90s is perhaps the most beautiful era in Bollywood. Hindi Cinema was evolving in this decade. Some also opine that the ‘90s made only mediocre Hindi Films but there were so much honesty and innocence in those stories - something that movies of the current generation lack. Some of us also laugh at the garish makeup or costumes, but ‘90s Bollywood is still deeply rooted in most of us till today.
The ‘90s brought back the romantic episode again cutting out from the highly dramatic action sequences of the ‘80s. Knowingly or unknowingly, many of the current generation kids/teenagers still carry the fashion trends from the ‘90s Bollywood.
Let’s take a look at some of those truly gorgeous and stylish trends from the ‘90s Bollywood: -
Brown Lip Shade
The ‘70s and ‘80s Bollywood was all about the shades of red and pink lipsticks but the ‘90s favorite lip shape was brown. The leading ladies of Bollywood in that era carried shades of brown lipsticks. Be it, Madhuri Dixit, in Hum Aapke Hai Koun or Dil To Pagal Hai, or Prahaar (watch this action thriller online on Mzaalo - the best free movie streaming app) or Karisma Kapoor in her No. 1 series of films, brown lipstick was a constant.
Bouncy Step Curls
Madhuri Dixit was the biggest star of the ‘90s and who can get over her bouncy curls? Bouncy curls were the biggest fashion trend of the nostalgic ‘90s Bollywood. Shilpa Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Juhi Chawla, - or look at any heroine from the ‘90s and you will find bouncy step hair on them. This was heavily followed by girls and women of that time.
Knotted Shirts & T-shirts
Aamir Khan tied a knot on his shirts in the ‘90s favorite movie Rangeela. While many actresses like Urmila Matondkar, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor, Sonali Bendre, etc. were seen in knotted t-shirts. And all of them looked stunning.
Denim shirts
Remember Urmila Matondkar from the ‘90s classic love story Rangeela? Rangeela was the launchpad for Manish Malhotra and redefined the career of Urmila and that whole movie was a fashion book for the modern ‘90s. One of the most iconic takeaways from Rangeela was the denim shirts worn over denim trousers. Since then this trend has never gone out of fashion in or away from Bollywood. From commoners to Bollywood celebrities, you will notice denim shirts quite often. (Watch Rangeela - a romantic musical on Mzaalo for free. Oversized Jackets
Both the actors and actresses carried those oversized jackets in song sequences. That looked quite fashionable. These jackets were even carried during photo shoots for magazine covers or tabloids.
Big Boots
With short skirts and high-waist jeans came the trend of big boots that accentuated the ultra, classy, modern woman look. This was heavily inspired from the west but was quite a hit. In fact, these big boots have stayed in the Bollywood fashion circuit since then.
Chokers
Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hai Koun presented the most iconic traditional style for all Indian women in the ‘90s. She was seen in chokers in many scenes of HAHK. Inspired by that chokers were seen everywhere and no marriage function was devoid of chokers.
